Austin Busted County Handoff
Austin had 4,064 residents at the April 1, 2020 Census, according to the official Census profile. The Austin Police Department makes municipal arrests, but Scott County centralizes jail intake. The sheriff's roster has used “AUSTIN POLICE DEPT” as an arresting-agency value, confirming that a person arrested by city police can be booked at the Scott County Security Center.
That field describes which agency the jail attributes the arrest to. It does not show that the arrested person lives in Austin, settle the exact incident boundary, or establish a conviction. The Security Center, also called the Scott County Detention Center in the roster chooser, is one county facility rather than two jails. Its sheriff-created booking entry is distinct from the incident report created by Austin Police.
Finding Austin Busted Mugshots
No functioning Austin municipal site with a searchable arrest log, daily bulletin, booking-photo feed, or online public-records form was verified. The official fallback is therefore county-based. Begin with the Scott County roster chooser, which separates people currently shown in custody from people released during the preceding 48 hours.
- Select the current roster when the person may still be held.
- Search by first or last name, or browse all entries sorted by booking date.
- Open the profile and record the SCJAIL booking number, booking time, listed charges, and arresting agency when available.
- Use the 48-hour release list if the person may have left recently.
- Request older jail records from the sheriff and follow the court case through Indiana MyCase.
The release list is keyed to release time, not arrest time. A person booked long ago and released today may appear there. Someone booked yesterday who remains held belongs in the current list. A person released more than 48 hours ago can be absent from both, which makes a reasonably particular records request necessary.
Austin Arrest Record Channels
Each source covers a different stage. The sheriff roster is a county custody tool. Austin Police holds the city's own incident material. MyCase continues from the initial allegation to filed counts, hearings, orders, and judgment. No single search covers all three.
| Source | What it answers | Photo status |
|---|---|---|
| Current roster | Who is presently displayed in Scott County custody | Visible on list entries |
| Released roster | Who left the Security Center within 48 hours | Visible on entries |
| Austin Police request | City-created incident or arrest report | Must be requested expressly |
| Indiana MyCase | Filed Scott County case and disposition | Not a mugshot source |
| IDOC locator | Sentenced state correctional custody | Identification-photo route differs |
For present custody confirmation, the Scott County Sheriff's Office lists 812-752-8400 as a 24-hour number. A name missing from the roster can reflect release, transfer, intake lag, a different facility, legal restriction, or spelling. Absence alone supports no conclusion about guilt or innocence.
Austin Busted Agency Labels
Austin's distinctive search angle is the arresting-agency field. It lets a reader identify entries attributed to Austin Police even though there is no verified city booking portal. Use it as a routing fact, not a residence filter. The label says who made or delivered the arrest according to the jail record; it does not prove the person's home address or every detail of the event location.
- Arresting agency
- The police or other agency credited in the booking entry.
- Booking custodian
- The Scott County Sheriff's Office, which operates the Security Center and holds the jail-created record.
- Disposition
- The court's later resolution, such as dismissal, plea, trial judgment, or another final order.
- Booking number
- An SCJAIL identifier for one intake event, not a universal person or court number.
Searches should use “Austin Indiana,” “Austin Scott County,” or the exact booking number. Results that omit Indiana are prone to contamination from Austin, Texas. Commercial people-search directories should not fill the gap left by the absence of a municipal portal.
Austin Busted Roster Interface
The official Scott County current roster is the matching image source for an Austin page because no verified APD blotter exists:
The screenshot documents the county search interface and photo policy. It is not an Austin mugshot gallery and should never be read as a complete record of city police activity.
The sheriff does not promise a refresh interval or a permanent online profile. Save the exact booking identifier when a matching entry is found. That identifier is far more precise than a common name when asking for the booking sheet or comparing the record with a court cause number.
Austin Police Records Route
No authoritative Austin Police records address, fee, direct records line, or online form was verified. Do not rely on an unofficial directory or publish guessed contact details. Ask Austin Police to confirm its current submission channel, copying fee, and production estimate, then send a reasonably particular request under Indiana's Access to Public Records Act, IC 5-14-3.
Two focused requests may be needed. Ask Austin Police for its incident or arrest report. Ask the sheriff separately for the “Scott County Security Center booking sheet and intake identification photograph” tied to the name, approximate date, and SCJAIL booking number. The sheriff FAQ says the office cannot provide another law-enforcement agency's records.

Administrative hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Ask the sheriff to state the current fee before ordering. Its published FAQ contains conflicting no-fee and fee language. A narrow record description also reduces the risk of confusion between a city investigation file and the county intake file.
Austin Busted Intake Record
An Indiana jail admission rule, 210 IAC 3-1-6, explains why the Scott County Security Center collects more than it shows the public. Intake is thorough. Staff record a booking number, the time of admission, the legal name plus any aliases, the commitment authority, and the delivering officer. Charges, fingerprints, a mugshot, and assorted administrative details go in too. Most of it stays internal.
The public roster is narrower. Expect a photo, a name, a booking identifier, the date, and the listed charges. That is the core of it. A fuller profile may add the arresting agency, a bond figure, or other fields once they are populated. Blank does not mean "none." Asking for more than you need invites a statutory wall, and juvenile material sits outside that wall entirely. It stays confidential except in narrow categories. Sealed records stay restricted too, so a missing entry is not an invitation to hunt for a photo somewhere else.
Indiana also requires a daily incident log. That product is not the county photo roster. The log covers complaint, response, and incident facts, while the admission rule governs jail intake. The two answer different questions. A records request can describe the date, rough time, place, and type of incident, then ask Austin Police whether a public entry or report matches. If something is withheld, ask for the statutory reason rather than assuming the whole event is sealed.
Older material works the same way. The city agency answers for its investigation file. The sheriff answers for county custody, and the court for the judicial case. Keep those custodians straight and an Austin Police label never gets mistaken for the full story.
Austin Busted News Sources
Start with official news. The sheriff's press-release archive posts selected operations, arrests, and investigations, though it is not a complete arrest log. For older coverage, the Scott County Herald publication page leads to historical issues that carried weekly sheriff arrest reports covering Austin. That archive shows no current daily feed and no routine use of booking photos.
Regional stations WAVE and WDRB have also run episodic Austin stories built on sheriff or Indiana State Police material. They illustrate how a supplied agency image travels into the news. Coverage is selective, so a handful of stories cannot capture all arrests or the city's typical charge mix. Track any named case into MyCase before concluding anything.
The broader Mugshots in the News page sorts official releases, local reporting, and unofficial reposts into separate lanes. A published arrest story is only an account; the court record supplies the outcome.
Unofficial Austin Mugshot Results
Third-party results belong after official checks. Busted Newspaper's Austin tag can surface Austin-related entries, but tags can be noisy and do not verify residence. Its Scott County stream and county pages at Recently Booked, Mugshots.com, Arrests.org, and Mugshots.zone may also contain records whose agency field mentions Austin Police.
These are copied, unofficial sources. One booking can appear on several sites without becoming several confirmations. Entries may be delayed, duplicated, incomplete, or retained after release and after charges change. Verify custody with the Scott County sheriff and disposition with Indiana MyCase. Do not use an aggregator's Austin label to assert residence, guilt, or a current city arrest count.
